Tips for Naturally Beautiful Nails

Tips for Naturally Beautiful Nails
You do not take to go to the salon regularly to have beautiful nails. Combining a balanced diet, careful beauty care, and good personal hygiene can give you decent nails at a fraction of the cost and chemical load.

Use a moisturizer

When you rub lotion or oil on your hands, apply it to your cuticles and nails as well. Consistent handwashing or the use of hand sanitizer can quickly dry out the skin and nail bed. So try to keep them moisturized after every wash if possible.1 Coconut oil is excellent for rubbing your nails and cuticles.

Take care of your cuticles

Avoid having your cuticles cut during a manicure. Cuticles are considered a barrier to bacteria, and cutting them can lead to painful infections.2 You can moisten it and slide it back with a cuticle pusher and just cut off the dead skin.

If you’re planning a conventional manicure, at least protect your cuticles by rubbing them with olive or almond oil beforehand to reduce the number of chemicals the nail polish soaks up.

Avoid intense polishes

Nail polish contains highly toxic chemicals like toluene, dibutyl phthalate, dimethyl and diethyl phthalates, camphor, and formaldehyde.3 Fortunately, companies like OPI, Orly, Sally Hansen, and Revlon make some polishes that don’t contain these chemicals. But read the label carefully before purchasing. You can also buy water-based resins, which won’t last that long but are the safest option on the market.

Look for alternatives

Now some companies make more slight toxic polishes and removers. Check out the list below and bring your favorite color with you when you go to the salon for your next pedicure.

Improve instead of coloring

It might not be as chic or flashy as the color, but a little sheen can go a long way. Take the time to trim correctly, file, and buff your nails, and you will be pleasantly surprised at how good they can look despite being natural. Never cut from side to side with a file, as this can weaken your nails. Always file inwards from the outside edge of the nail.

Choose a good remover

You can get an acetone-free remover almost anywhere that will put less strain on your nails. Priti sells a remover made entirely from soy and corn, and No-Miss has Almost Natural, which contains fruit acids and vanilla.

Eat well

Diet is essential to keep your nails healthy. Protein is as crucial as omega-3.4 fatty acids. Eating foods with biotin reduces brittleness, and selenium prevents removing the nail bed.5 Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
